Peripherally inserted central venous catheters: alternative or first choice vascular access?
Conclusions Ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopy-positioned PICC placement had a low incidence of complications, reduced infection rates, and proved safe and effective in cases of difficult vascular access. PICCs can be considered the devices of choice for central vascular access.

IMPACT OF SELECTIVE SEROTONIN REUPTAKE INHIBITORS (SSRIs) DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: A FOCUS ON SHORT AND LONG-TERM VASCULAR EFFECTS.
Abstract SSRIs are the first choice for the treatment of mood disorders during pregnancy and lactation. Despite the known side effects, the benefits/risks balance suggests their use. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) are the main vascular effects of these drugs, with mechanisms that involves endothelial dysfunction in feto-placental system. These data are supported by animal models, even if preliminary findings are not yet adequately supported by molecular and clinical data. SSRIs. applications and mode of action. Nowadays selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (...

The novel use of the Haemodialysis reliable outflow graft (HeRo ®) in intestinal failure patients with end-stage vascular access.
We describe a case series of HeRO graft use in patients with IF and end-stage vascular access. Four HeRO grafts were inserted into IF patients with end-stage vascular access to facilitate or support intestinal transplantation. In all patients the HeRO facilitated immediate vascular access, supporting different combinations of parenteral nutrition, intravenous medications, fluids or renal replacement therapy with no bloodstream infections. In a highly complex group of IF patients with central venous stenosis/occlusion limiting conventional venous access or at risk of life-threatening catheter-related complications, a HeRO®...

Long-term patency rate of the translocated autologous saphenous vein versus prosthetic material in vascular access surgery for haemodialysis and parenteral nutrition
CONCLUSION: The SV can be preferred over PTFE when conduit material is needed for long-term vascular access for HD or PN treatment due to its higher secondary patency and lower infection risk.PMID:34847751 | DOI:10.1177/11297298211013133

Mortality After Discharge in Non-cardiac Vascular Surgery Patients is Negatively Influenced by Malnutrition Measured at Hospital Discharge, Especially in Patients with Protein-Energy Malnutrition
Introduction: Vascular surgery patients have high rates of malnutrition during hospital admission. The effects of this nutrition status on morbidity and mortality in this population, especially after hospital discharge is not well documented. We sought to determine the impact of nutrition status on out-of-hospital mortality in vascular surgery patients.

Vascular Surgery in India – the Challenge and the Promise
India: 1.38 billion people, one sixth of humanity and a population two and a half times that of Europe with a per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of $2 100 as against $45 000 for the European Union (EU). The healthcare scenario in India is very different from the West for a variety of reasons. India is a low income country with vast economic, educational, nutritional and cultural inequities. India has a young population with average age of 35 years. Only 6% of its population is over 65 years though this does constitute 78 million people (more than the population of France), and yet, we do not perform as many vascular p...

Malnutrition: A risk factor for vascular access problems
CONCLUSION: GNRI a new tool for detecting malnutrition was strongly associated with fistula patency in hemodialysis patients. Detection of malnutrition before fistula operation may be helpful for the future follow up of the patients in terms of fistula patency.PMID:36908020 | DOI:10.1177/11297298231154631

External validation of CLI Frailty Index and assessment of predictive value of modified CLI Frailty Index for patients with critical limb ischemia undergoing infrainguinal revascularization.
CONCLUSIONS: Both the CLI Frailty and the modified CLI Frailty Indexes were useful in predicting the two-year overall survival of patients with CLI after infrainguinal revascularization. Although the measurement of skeletal muscle mass using computed tomography may accurately predict two-year overall survival, SMI prediction is effective for patients with CLI who did not undergo preoperative CT. Role of nutritional indices in predicting outcomes of vascular surgery
Malnutrition is frequent among vascular surgery patients, given their age, chronic comorbidities, and poor functional status, and it is believed to increase their operative risk. We aimed to assess the combined use of recent significant weight loss (>10% body mass) and serum albumin levels as a nutritional status index to predict outcomes.

Prevalence and Features of Risk for Malnutrition in Patients Prior to Vascular Surgery
Introduction - Malnutrition, defined as ’a state of nutrition in which an imbalance of energy, protein, and other nutrients causes measurable adverse effects on tissue/body form and function, and clinical outcome’1, is an important risk factor for adverse post-operative outcomes.2 Currently prevalence and features of risk for malnutri tion in vascular surgery patients are unknown. We aimed to assess the prevalence and features of risk for malnutrition, using the Scored Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment© Short Form (PG-SGA SF)3, and to test how this risk relates to co-variables such as smoking, Body Mass I...

Malnutrition provides important long-term prognostic information in patients undergoing endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
CONCLUSIONS: Malnutrition is associated with significant increase in postoperative long-term mortality in endovascular aortic replacement patients. Preoperatively calculated objective nutritional indexes especially prognostic nutritional index can be used as an important prognostic tool. PMID: 32998666 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
